What Causes Scabies?

Definition

Scabies is an itchy condition of the skin and it is caused by sarcoptes scabbier, which is a tiny mite that burrows under the skin. Many people confuse scabies with lice but the two are different although their treatment could be similar. The mite hides in the feet, hands and male genitalia causing itching due to an allergic reaction to the mites. The mites are passed from one person to another by close contact. It is easily passed between people when they shake hands. The mite may survive for a month on human hosts but less than three days without a human host. Female mites lay 10 to 25 eggs on the skin before they die. 3 days later the eggs hatch into larvae, which will in turn become adult mites in about 14 to 17 days.

Causes

The rash caused by scabies is also referred to as the seven year itch. Mites are also found in animals but when animal mites move on to a human host they die within a few days because they are unable to reproduce. The mite and subsequently the scabies condition affects people across the age, gender, social class or personal hygiene habits divide. The infected persons pass them on to the rest of their family members because they will come into close contact with them from time to time. Scabies spreads quickly in congested places like hospitals and schools. The worst affected people are the malnourished, the elderly and those with a poor immune system. With people that exhibit a poor immune system the condition causes the Crusted Babies Syndrome. The syndrome is responsible for a scaly rash that thickens the skin.

The mites cause rashes after digging small tunnels below the skin. For people that are infected for the first time the scabies symptoms are not manifested for as long as six weeks, but people getting that are re-infested, the manifestation of symptoms is almost immediate in as little as a few days. Skin to skin contact is the major way scabies gets spread. It can be spread minimally through the sharing of clothes and beddings. Touching something that the mite is on can cause scabies. These methods however are not easy ways of spreading scabies, since even when it comes to skin to skin contact with infested people scabies is not immediately spread to the unaffected person except through prolonged contact. That is why scabies is mostly spread to sexual partners or household members.

How to Change a Door Knob

The door is the single most functional part of the door. It helps you easily open and close the door. Changing the door knob is a task that can be performed by most people for the simple fact that it is relatively easy. The most important tool for this kind of task is:

  • The screw driver.

  • WD40

  • Door knob kit

The instructions are easy to follow.

    1. The very first step is to pry or unscrew the metal ring found between the door knob and the door. Spraying WD40 first makes them that much easier to unfasten.

    2. Next, the screws holding the door knobs on both side of the door will have to be unscrewed. This makes it possible to remove the door knobs from the door.

    3. The bolt which is often attached to the door and is crucial when locking the door has to be removed next. Again, this is done by unscrewing it.

    4. You then need to assess the metal strike plate which is used for holding the bolt in place. It may be left in place if it is not loose otherwise it may be easily removed from the doorjamb by also unscrewing it.

    5. At this point, you may carefully insert the new bolt and fasten it in place. An important point to note is that the slanted side should always face towards the direction that you close your door in.

    6. The trim piece is next inserted between the door knob and the door after which the door knob is secured in place.

    7. The process of inserting a trim between the door and the door knob has to be repeated on the other side of the door. It is imperative that the trims on either side of the door are effectively aligned so that it can be easy to hold them in place using the screws.

    8. Finally, all the screws have to be tightened.

It is important to note that all parts need to be replaced in the same order in which they were removed. The simplest way of telling that you are doing as required is to take a look at how other door knobs in the house have been set up; it serves as a guide.

The above steps are relatively easy to follow. More over, replacing the door knob yourself is more cost affective compared to hiring a carpenter. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the activity requires you to be not only very alert but also very patient.

As it moves through air, the flow is not as smooth because of the drag. When flying your paper airplanes, we want to have less of a drag that’s why we want our wings horizontal and not vertical. Aside from that, the second force that you should be considering when creating a paper airplane is the gravity. It is the other force that you have to overcome to create a paper airplane that will fly longer than the others. To overcome that, you will need to create a paper airplane as light as possible. Don’t use a cardboard or carton-like material if you want your paper airplane to fly longer. You should use a very thin and light material to create a successful paper airplane. Now it all comes to how you will lift it thrust the paper plane. As those two are the other two forces that make a real airplane fly.

What Causes Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a descriptive term for a condition in which there is a lateral curvature of the spine. Although all spines exhibit curves the occurrence of curvatures in the neck, lower trunk and upper trunk is normal, the occurrence of lateral curves on the spinal column is abnormal. Scoliosis has many causes, some of which are known while others are still unknown.

Known Causes

There are a number of known causes of scoliosis. To begin with, the condition may be hereditary or acquired; or it may arise due to a disease or as a consequence of injury. Secondly, the condition may arise due to changes in the bony structure such as the bending of a vertebral body. Closely associated with this is a condition in which there are neuromuscular problems, which directly affect the musculature of the trunk, such as poliomyelitis, cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. Thirdly, scoliosis may arise due to birth defects such as hemivertebra, a condition in which one side of the vertebra fails to develop. In other instances, birth deformities lead to multiple spinal aberrations. The fourth known cause of scoliosis is the occurrence of tumors in the body. Such tumors include those caused by neurofibromatosis. Other known causes include metabolic and rheumatic diseases and certain infections.

Unknown Causes

The unknown causes of scoliosis are medically known as idiopathic causes. Most cases of scoliosis (over 80 per cent) arise due to unknown causes. As an example, muscle imbalance has been closely linked to cases of poliomyelitis and hence scoliosis due to its effect on the spine. However, since muscle imbalance also occurs in “normal” individuals, it is difficult to comprehend how it causes scoliosis. Idiopathic scoliosis causes the lateral curvature of the spine whose cause is unknown. It can begin from any three stages in life. One rare condition, known as infantile idiopathic scoliosis, is that in which an infantile curvature develops and improves on its own without treatment. It is not known why this happens. Another kind of scoliosis strikes at the ages of between four and ten and is referred to as early onset idiopathic scoliosis or juvenile scoliosis. Although the condition has been closely been related to birth defects, its clear cause is unknown since it increases rapidly as the child approaches adolescence. Finally, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis occurs in adolescents between the ages of ten to thirteen, mostly in girls. Regrettably, the cause of this is also unknown.
